Extension and Remodel
Completed

This is one of two projects that ran concurrently on the same street in Murrayfield; view the other project here. Though very different in scope and layout, we replicated certain materials and specific details in order to reduce the construction fees.

The existing house was very cellular and disjointed. It lacked the space for our client to bring their friends and family together. Our proposal prioritised social function; we designed a series of inviting spaces for people to come together and connect.

Process

We were appointed on a full service, taking the project from concept to completion. It was a challenging process that was halted on numerous occasions due to the pandemic. Despite the interruptions, everyone involved stayed close to the project and is exceptionally proud of what we’ve created.

Our team took a lot of time to consider how this home would feel, how it would support the lifestyle our clients’ craved. The plot isn’t large or flat so we incorporated a series of level changes in the extension. It houses the new kitchen, dining and living space. The few steps that separate the living space from the kitchen and dining area provide a welcome feeling of separation and cosiness, but they still feel open and connected to the rest of the room.

We continued these steps externally too, which lead to two seating areas—one to soak up the evening sun and the other to dine alfresco.

Upstairs, the extension houses two additional bedrooms and a main bathroom, as well as the master suite (complete with walk-in wardrobe and large en-suite).
